UNICEF Uses Google+ to Share Stories From the Field
UNICEF virtually convened activists, bloggers and students to share stories about issues affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Effective storytelling shines a spotlight on issues, and encourages people to share information, ideas and resources that can help address them. Platforms like Google+ make it possible for people around the world to join in conversations about your stories.
UNICEF used a Google+ Hangout to convened activists, bloggers and students to share stories about issues affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo, such as polio, child soldiers and gender-based violence. Mia Farrow, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, hosted the Hangout.
Google+ enabled UNICEF to bring its far-flung community into a single conversation, with participants from locations spanning 12 time zones. This gave people interested in UNICEF’s mission an inside look at the efforts of UNICEF colleagues working on the Congo crisis.
Other United Nations agencies were inspired by UNICEF’s success to host their own Hangouts, and UNICEF planned to host additional Hangouts on other topics.
